Any night when I can listen to live music in paradise is a good night. Last night was a damn fine night! @woodysseafoodsaloonstj threw their annual Save The Coconuts block party and it was a blast. With no less than 9 of St. John's wildly talented musicians sharing the stage, The ISH had the crowd windin' and grindin'. Lead singer, @missingridvi was on fire! The energy had everyone on their feet. Most of my photos of the band turned out blurry as a result of trying to take them while dancing. I did manage to catch this sweet shot of @philiahhailei during one of his guitar solos. Such an outstanding night of music and celebration - all to benefit the St. John Cancer Fund. Love City sure knows how to #partywithapurpose ❤🇻🇮❤🇾🇹❤
My "memories" feed stung today. 4 years ago, I was sailing on Goddess Athena. 6 years ago, I was playing a gig at Barefoot Cowboy. And on this day some years back, my sweet Sarah and I became friends on Facebook. So much loss last year. While I try to stay focused on the positive, I am also learning the importance in acknowledging the grief, remembering to honor and respect the process. Otherwise, it hides in the cracks and resurfaces in ways that are not healthy. ⚪ One day last week, I was home alone and feeling angry over nothing and everything. I wasn't sure why and my go to "feel better" techniques were falling short. So, I found a guided meditation intended for releasing anger. Within minutes I found myself sobbing and it hit me - I wasn't really angry, I was profoundly sad. Angry was my protective shield because it felt better than that sadness. The sadness took me by surprise - I thought I had "worked through my grief." More and more I am realizing that it just doesn't happen that way. It is not all or nothing. It comes in waves. ⚪ Thankfully, as I sat with that deeper feeling and let it run its course (let me tell you about some ugly crying), I felt it soften. It came, I felt it hard, and then it passed. And I know it will come again and that is okay. It does not define me. It is not the whole of my identity. It is just part of my process. ⚪ Sending so much love to you all today.
